Sega Superstars Tennis

June 5, 2008

Not a bad little game for 2-player tennis.

The tennis play is average but we’re OK with that as Mario and Sonic on the same screen is something of a new coallition.

We enjoyed playing this 2-player HU and you don’t require two cartridges which is great.

PC crashed – data recovery disaster

April 2, 2008

Woke up to find my PC dead to the world.  Bummer.  After checking the bootup sequence, turned out my boot drive was out for the count.

I had a lot of important emails etc. on the PC so decided to try to boot off a clean hard drive – no joy, the main hard drive looked like it had totally failed.  Data recovery was a no-go as my FAT wasn’t the problem.

Contacted a few companies and sent my hard drive to 123 Data Recovery - 3 days later, all my data was returned to me on DVDs.  Great data recovery service, totally stress free.  In fact the data recovery technician could tell me 100% of my data was recoverable BEFORE I sent them the hard drive.  Amazing.

So thanks to 123 Data Recovery for a great data recovery service and saving me a few more grey hairs!

Napoleon Dynamite – utter turkey

January 11, 2008

I never knew Napoleon Dynamite was such a big film – and it definitely didn’t appeal to little kids.  Furthermore there was no sequel.  But a game has been released 3 years after the movie – nice timing!

Napoleon Dynamite features many mini games (25) strung together with a bad storyline.

In a nutshell, I am not going to waste my time with playing this game even if it was free.

Contra 4

December 16, 2007

I am so glad the NDS is soaking up the void of retro gaming and puzzle games that seem redundant on the full sized consoles.

Contra 4 features all the same gameplay as the previous Contras (I am still playing Contra 1 on the arcade classics rom).

However, they’ve made it hard…ridiculously hard.  I would recommend EASY settting.

Battle your way thru the 2D platform graphics to take you back to the arcade of 1988.

Thumbs up!

Legend of Zelda : Phantom Hourglass

October 22, 2007

Legend of Zelda : Phantom Hourglass makes it’s debut on the Nintendo DS, giving nintendo users what they always wanted – the cream of video games not available on other consoles.

Controls are via touch/swipe with the stylus.   It takes some getting used to but later in the game the dividends pay off with the stylus movement.

The game takes off from where Windmaker left off.  Interestingly when you enter a dungeon or area, you’re given a complete map immediately which is great and saves too much exploring.

I don’t want to go into too much detail about this game, except it is excellent and a worth buy.

Touchmaster

July 13, 2007

Touchmaster is a collection of no-frills puzzle games.

Classic Mah-Jong, Shoot the Hoop, various kids games, card games and Times Square crossword game.

This little collection of games does what it says on the tin – nothing fancy but highly addictive.

It’s good to see puzzle games more on the NDS and they seem to have fizzled out on consoles due to the low selling price they fetch.

Shrek The Third

June 26, 2007

Shrek The 3rd is a reasonable attempt at a film tie-in game.

Some really nice features include being able to choose from different characters to use in the game.  Donkey also reads aloud parts of the story.  Very nice.

Some downsides include the same puzzles and enemies are the same throughout the game and multi player requires 2 Shrek games.

This game is mostly a puzzle per level and aimed primarily at Shrek fans.  Eddie Murphy does the voice overs as usual and is excellent.

For Shrekers only…

Meteos : Disney Magic

June 6, 2007

Leading on from the successful Meteos game, Meteos Disney Magic is a nice twist on an existing popular puzzle game.

Some changes to Meteos means blocks can be moved horizontally and vertically.  As you progress, Disney artwork is unlocked.

It is fair to say the game is difficult and questions what market is it aimed at – young kids or older teenage gamers?

Lego Star Wars II

May 25, 2007

Quite a cute little game, Lego Star Wars combines two of my favourite childhood memories – ‘Star Wars’ and Lego.

They really knew what they were doing when they formulated that combo!

The missions all resemble scenarios from the Star Wars trilogy, and you can do the classic Death Star run.

Interface is standard but very playable.  The 3D models are excellent and are exact replicas of your favourite Lego people.  There are a few problems with dodgy angles when trying to jump gaps perfectly and I have heard that the AI goes crazy and friendly characters may shoot you.

Multi player option is built in too which is excellent, as being an adventure game there was no need to include this.

A great play, if you can put up with the bugs.

Platinum Sudoku

May 15, 2007

Platinum Sudoku from Ubisoft is by far the best Sudoku game available (except Big Brain Academy) for the NDS

Firstly,  a nice feature is you ‘draw’ the numbers into the grid with the stylus.  It also comes packed with features such as 2 -player, solver mode (solves Soduko puzzles for you) and a custom mode where you can create your own puzzles.

Built in puzzles gone on for miles and miles and should keep Sudoku fans happy for weeks/months.
